What little is that is known about the darkfriend that calls himself The Rapier may lead someone more confused than when they began. Rumors have placed him as being of Ebou Dari decent, and that he was kidnapped as a young child by pirates to be raised as one of their own. The why as to him swearing to The Dark One is unknown, but it is known that the Dark One demanded a great sacrifice from him upon his pledge; the death of those people that he had grown to see as his family. This is the reason, many proclaim, for The Rapiers unique habits; he is known to select a target and hunt down and kill every single one of their family members before finally turning them to the Dark One through promises of being able to restore their loved ones to life. Nothing is known of whether this promise has ever been fulfilled because tales of The Rapier are at best unconfirmed. All that is truly known is that a man by this name does exist, and that he killed a party traveling north towards Tar Valon carrying sensitive information. It would be callous to say that this is not meaningful, but it might not have meaning to Corwin and his adventures if not for the fact that two of the members of that party were the High Lord and Lady of House Algerin, the parents of the Lady Palea and her wayward brother Mathias. Both Palea and Mathias seek this man for retribution or, perhaps, for answers. There are some that have noticed similarities between the background of The Rapier and Trent Zebansk, but that is only speculation at this time.
