Ter'Angreal
The Doorway of Need
"Little is known about the Doorway of Need. It was created sometime during the War of Power by a female channeler named Kishanchi Tellen Mordallin, one of the most noted creators of ter'angreal in her time. It is a doorway seemingly carved from Lapis Lazuli of indescribable height and depth, and many that have written about it claim that its very dimensions change. What is known is that if you pass through the doorway with the purest intent and greatest need, and are willing to offer up a sacrifice, you may find what you seek. Those that have passed through the doorway tend to be closed mouthed about what is on the other side, but they all agree that the cryptic warnings are warrented.
The Doorway of Need was last used by King Balwen Ironhand sometime during the Trolloc Wars. Fearing that his nation, Aridhol, could not fight off the hoards of shadowspawn and darkfriends that roamed the land, he went through the Doorway of Need to try and find something to help him defeat the forces of darkness. He returned with a man named Mordeth, who counseled him in using the tactics of the shadow to defeat the shadow. It goes without saying that the city of Aridhol paid their price for the advice King Balwen won. Yet, in the end it was not the Trolloc War that Aridhol fell to, it was a monstrous flesh eating fog that their own hatred had created. It would see that Balwen Ironhand got what he wanted, he was just not specific enough."

The Doorway of Need
Activation: Enter
Affinities: None
Size: huge
Weight: 200 lbs.
Occurrence: Unique
This doorway, currently found in a secret collection of ter'angreal stored beneath Balwen Ironhand's ruined castle, appears to be made entirely of lapis lazuli. It resembles the more famed doorways found in Tear and Rhuindean in some respects, but has the strange property of seeming to change in size. Anybody can use this ter’angreal; it does not require the One Power to activate; though all old texts caution that it should only be used by those with great need and the purest of intent. Within it lies a great chamber, seeming created by trees that have intertwined together to make a wooden room, over which the Gholien, the lesser-known cousins of the Snakes and Foxes, hold sway.
Through an ancient pact made between human kind and the Gholien, a human may enter the Gateway when in search of something that they need greatly. The definition of "great" seems to depend entirely upon the person entering the gateway, and it is said that the Gholien are harsh judges upon those that ask for frivolous things. In return, the Gholien makes one request upon the human, most often a request to give up that which they hold most dear or sacred. If the human refuses, they are cast forth from the gateway, and it will become nothing but a simple doorway to them ever after. The Gholien call this the test of need, if what they seek is worth enough, they claim, a human should be willing to give up anything to receive it.
Once the deal has been struck (meaning that the human has gifted the Gholien with what they request), the doorway truly begins to perform its true purpose. More than just a permanent gateway weave to the land of the Gholien; the Doorway of Need is a catalyst, improving on the Gholiens natural ability to travel transdimensionally. From within the gateway a singular Gholien could travel, bringing another companion with them, anywhere in time and space. If what that person needed has existed, or perhaps even will exist, the Gholien will travel there, taking that person with them. Of course, after that, finding what they need is entirely up to the human, and returning home as well. Some consider it worth the price.
Forest Well
Activation: Special, Weave Sacrifice to Fill
Affinity: Earth
Size: Small
Weight: 1 lb.
Occurrence: Unique
This small well was designed by a Wilder whose name has long since been lost to history. Whomever they might have been, they obviously had a great affinity for the forest and the element of Earth. The well itself is in the shape of a dull knife carved from Moss Agate so that its surface resembles a vast jungle. If one channels threads of Earth through the well when in a area that is not protected from the One Power (such as a Stedding or any other place where the One Power cannot be sensed) it fills with the power, storing up to 20 points that can later be used to weave the One Power. These points can be used at any time when you are not too fatigued to channel, even when you would normally be unable to channel due to the effects of a Stedding or Stedding-like area. You may not use the well to channel weaves higher than you can normally cast, and all overchanneling penalties still apply; the Well simple allows you to draw on its stored energy of the One Power where they would normally be none. You may not use a Well while you are shielded, or if you have been severed.
The Jade of Despair
Activation: Locking Clasp
Affinities: Spirit
Size: Tiny
Weight: 5 oz.
Occurrence: Unique; though other necklaces of its kind were made
Created sometime during the Age of Legends, the Jade of Despair is a Jade and Silver necklace that is used to punish a female channeler who has performed a minor descretion against the codes of the Aes Sedai. When the necklace is around the neck of a channeler and secured, it mimics the effects of a temporary Stedding in that it causes the channeler to be unable to sense or touch the True Source. It was most often kept on a channeler for a week at most, and used to punish transgressions such as using the One Power for personal gain.
Ring of Wakefulness
Activation: Being Worn
Affinities: None known
Size: Tiny
Weight: 2 oz.
MOccurrence: Rare to Unique
A Sterling Silver Ring engraved with the archaic symbol for Wakefulness, this ring allows its wearer to go for ten days without the need for rest. If the wearer does attempt to sleep, they will wake up refreshed after only one hour of sleep. The origin of these rings has been lost, although it is safe to assume that they arose out of the Age of Legends or the time soon afterwards. A Decipher Scrip check DC15 or Knowledge (Arcana) check DC25 can help a character to identify the rune that adorns the ring, but all knowledge of the ring itself has been lost since the Trolloc Wars so only the libraries of Tar Valon or Aridhol are likely to have any reference to its existence.
Talisman of Growing
Activation: Ogier Treesinging DC 35
Affinities: None
Size: Small
Weight: 2 lb.
Occurrence: Unique
This ter'angreal was made from Tree-Sung Wood during The Breaking of the World. In order to use it, you must place the Talisman on a slab of granite of the appropriate size and begin to Treesing a song designed specifically for the Talisman. At this point, the talisman will sink into the wood until it is barely visible and an amazing transformation will begin to occur. Vines of stone will begin to grow outward from the Talisman of Growing towards the ground until the stone and the ground on which it stood become one. While this is happening, the Talisman is creating a permanent gateway between the spot where the Waygate will stand and the Ways, a mysterious passage of bridges through the netherworld between locations. The process to grow a completed Waygate requires three hours of continuous Treesinging, generally done by multiple Ogier concurrently; with each of the Ogier making a Concentration Check DC20 every half an hour. If one of the Ogier fails the concentration check, the Waygate growth can continue; but if all were to fail at one point in time; the attempt would be ruined. This has never been known to happen. An Ogier who has failed his concentration check may resume attempting to Treesing after another half an hour has gone by as long as he succeeds at a second Concentration Check.
As the Waygate grows close to completion, the Talisman of Growing, which resembles the leaf of the Chora plant, duplicates itself and one of the two copies reemerges from the stone. This is the sign that the process is completed. The other stone remains in the intricate carvings of vines and leaves that decorate the door to the Waygate, and it can be used to open the Waygate. There are some that believe that the Chora leaf that remains with the Waygate is the original Talisman of Growing, and that a new Talisman is produced with each Waygate grown; but that is considered wild speculation at best.
