An old friend of Palea’s parents, Maisa Basene retired to Arad Doman when she deemed herself too old for court life and took an estate in the country to live out the rest of her days. It was only when the party decided to stop and visit with Maisa Basene on their way north towards Bandar Eben that they began to realize that something did not seem right with her. Although Maisa Basene looked to be a woman late in life, she acted like somebody much younger, and took an overt interest in the party; especially that of the two female channelers. Both Kayma Al’Sassa and Grainnee got the sense, momentarily, that the Lady Basene could in fact channel, although moments later it was if it had never been so. The party sensed that all was not right but they decided to stay the night so as not to appear rude before heading north.
It was a night that may yet prove to have been fatal to them all. Both Caile and Twilos found that even in their dreams they walked to halls of the Lady’s estate, but there they did not encounter the Lady Basene but instead were forced to confront the forsaken Graendal. After some tense moments she cast compulsion of the two travelers, demanding that they find the horn of Valere and bring it to her, or die.
