Animal Companions

At level four, a woodsman may select an animal companion that would naturally be found in the Wheel of Time universe. This animal cannot be shadowspawn and cannot have more HD than the level of the character. Because of the human-like intelligence of the wolves, they do not make good animal companions. The animal becomes a loyal companion at the point that the woodman makes a successful animal empathy check of DC20, before hand the animal is either a pet or wild. The companion accompanies the woodsman on all of his/her adventures as appropriate for his species.

Animal companions also get a bonus number of tricks beyond those determined naturally by their intelligence as well as bonus HD, defense and strength do to the intense training that they undergo with their master. They earn a new level every time that their master goes up in level as well.
